At Adomah Kidney Care Foundation, we witness the profound human toll of kidney disease every single day. Today, we share the courageous yet heart-wrenching story of an individual whose life has been irrevocably altered, and who now desperately pleads for a chance at renewed health.

His journey began with an unexpected turn; three years ago, while working in Wenchi, he suffered a stroke, from which he commendably recovered. However, just as he found his footing again, a new, insidious challenge emerged. Persistent vomiting led him to Wenchi Methodist Hospital, where devastating news awaited: kidney failure.

Placed on dialysis, his initial support network began to wane as the financial and emotional demands mounted. In a testament to a mother’s unwavering love, his mum left her farming life in their village to be by his side, sacrificing her livelihood to care for him. Yet, the overwhelming cost of transporting to and from the hospital became an unbearable burden.

The personal devastation did not stop there. The immense strain on his family led to the heartbreaking departure of his wife, who took their three beloved children, leaving him to face this battle alone.

His days and nights are now defined by relentless suffering. He manages to sleep for only about an hour, struggling to find respite. His legs swell painfully with every step, forcing him to elevate them on pillows in a desperate attempt to ease the agony. “I plead for support. Have mercy on me. I am suffering. Medical expenses have drained me of all my finances,” he implores.

His ultimate hope, his last plea, is for a kidney transplant – a life-altering procedure that promises an escape from this relentless cycle of pain and dependence.

His story is a stark reminder of the financial and emotional ruin kidney disease can inflict. The Adomah Kidney Care Foundation exists precisely for individuals like him – to provide financial assistance for dialysis and transplants, promote kidney health awareness, and advocate for equitable access to healthcare.
